Early season ACC football kickoffs announced
Details about many football games -- including some involving Virginia Tech, Virginia or William and Mary -- in the first three weeks of the season and the ACC championship game on Dec. 6 in Tampa, Fla., were announced by the ACC on Tuesday.
Virginia Tech's Aug. 30 opener against East Carolina in Charlotte, N.C., will be at noon on ESPN. The Hokies host Furman at 1:30 on Sept. 6 for a non-televised game. On Sept. 13, Virginia Tech hosts Georgia Tech at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN or ABC. The Hokies' Thursday night clashes with Maryland (Nov. 6) and at Miami (Nov. 13) already were 7:30 kickoffs.
Virginia's opener against visiting powerhouse Southern California is set for 3:30 on Aug. 30. It will be on ESPN or ABC. Richmond travels to Virginia on Sept. 6 for a 3:45 p.m. showdown on ESPNU. The Cavaliers will travel to Connecticut on Sept. 13 for another ESPNU game, at 7:30 p.m.
William and Mary travels to N.C. State on Sept. 6 for a 6 p.m. non-televised game.
The fourth ACC title contest -- the first to be played in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium -- will be televised by ABC with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The ACC season's schedule begins with a pair of nationally televised Thursday night games on Aug. 28. N.C. State travels to South Carolina for an 8 p.m. ESPN game, and Wake Forest travels to Baylor for an 8 p.m. game on Fox SportsNet.
Other early highlights include Clemson-Alabama at 8 p.m., Aug. 30 on ABC and Miami at Florida on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
After the first three weeks of the season (games of Sept. 13), times and TV will be announced weekly, with ESPN/ABC and Raycom Sports making their choices with a 12-day advanced notice beginning Sept. 8 (for games on Saturday, Sept. 20).
